Industry & Unemployment
Percent Unemployed, by Province
As the map below shows, there are higher levels of unemployment in Southern Spain. Major cities are shown as proportional symbols according to population (larger symbols denote larger populations). Provinces that the trail goes through do not contain any large cities and generally contain lower numbers of unemployment. It cannot be determined, though, whether unemployment is correlated with the trail or other factors such as major industries due to the fact that there are provinces set apart from the trail with equally low numbers of unemployment.
Industry Branch, by Province
Major industrial branches shown in the maps below include agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and services. Darker colors denote higher percentages of respective industrial branches. Manufacturing is concentrated in North-Central Spain, along the easter half of the trail and there is a cluster of construction-heavy provinces on the western portion of the trail. Agricultural provinces are scattered, mostly in provinces without major cities, whereas service-oriented provinces overlap with highly-populated cities.
